The furriest foot!
Once the legs were made, the pivot holes were drilled through each one using a stand drill to ensure that they accurately lined up once assembled.
With similar care, the eight sockets for the cross pieces were carefully chiselled out. The four cross pieces were morticed into the legs and glued in place to make the two frames of the fauldstool. This is the stage where you do not want to see a matching pair! One frame (two legs and two cross pieces) fits within the other, as shown below.
